COMPETITORS ARRIVE 6:00 pm Do not be late!
Competitor Tech Rehearsal 6:30pm � 7:00pm
Registration Cost: $20 per person
Salsa Freestyle
Open to Amateur dancers ONLY. See the Judging Guidelines below for definition.
* Couples compete on the dance floor together to DJ selected music of approximately 3minutes. Depending on number of entries competitors may be grouped into Heats + Final.
* Dancers can only enter one Freestyle category. Please read the criteria carefully for Beginners Freestyle. If you don�t fulfill the criteria, you should enter the Advanced Freestyle.
* Competition music will be played at the Technical Rehearsal
Beginners Freestyle
* Dancers must not have more than approximately 1 year of dance experience
* Not to have placed in previous Salsa/Latindance Competitions
* Not to be competing above �E Grade�
Advanced Freestyle
* All other Amateur dancers
Salsa Performance
Open to Professional AND Amateur dancers. (See Judging Guidelines below for definitions).
* Dance Couples & Groups perform individually one at a time to their own music
* Dance Area will be 10 metres x 10 metres
* Music should be supplied on CD format (2 copies) with only one music track per CD.
* CD must be labeled with Name of competitor & Track duration
* Technical Rehearsal for performance competitors will include on floor positional check
MUSIC GUILDLINES (please read carefully as points will be deducted if these are not followed)
* Music to be a maximum of 3 minutes.
* Music should be at least 80% salsa with 20% being available for any style of music.
* Only 3 songs, maximum, can be mixed for one routine.

JUDGING GUIDELINES / CRITERIA
QUALIFICATION: All competitors will be required to sign a declaration to state whether they are Amateur or Professional Salsa dancers:
Amateur: Persons or couples that have not received financial reward either directly or indirectly for performing or teaching salsa.
Professional: Persons or couples that have received financial reward either directly or indirectly for performing or teaching salsa.
NOTE: While dancing and performing lifts, jumps etc. dancers need to exhibit good understanding of salsa rhythms, footwork and partner connection.
Judges will be marking each entry on the following criteria:
Rhythm / Timing
This is the highest proportion of the marking (40%)
Do the Dancers exhibit an understanding of the rhythm. Can they maintain the rhythm. When required can they change between the rhythms & syncopations. Are �Highlights� on time.
Partnering
Couple Dynamics � do they interact with each other, dance as a couple. Is there something happening between them or are they just 2 individuals, doing their own thing

Overall Presentation
The complete package. Their entrance and exit, introduction steps, end poses, stage presence & confidence. Moves should be well executed. Any lifts, highlights and step sequences should not interrupt the flow of the dance.
Appearance
Do the costumes match, suit the dancers and the performance.
Style
Does the dancers� styling suit Salsa dancing and each other, is it unique, does it add to the performance or does it detract from the dance.
Audience Appeal
Is the performance exciting, dynamic and entertaining to watch
Musicality (Freestyle categories only)
Ability to interpret the music and match the dance to the music
Choreography (Performance categories only)
Do the Dancers dance with movements & steps that match the music played. Are Highlights well placed. Are the moves original (creation or re-creation of moves). What is the level of difficulty of the moves. How dynamic and clean is their presentation.

All competitors will be required to sign a release for any photos or video footage taken at the competition. Only official Kantuta cameras (video & still) are permitted to film at this event.

NZ Salsa LatinDance Competition Entertainment
The LatinDance Competition is Great Entertainment, and is only! Part of the nights events. The LatinDance Competition is a visual spectacular for the public.
In addition to the LatinDance Competition, which runs for approximately 2 hours of the evening’s entertainment, are the following acts;
Kantuta, International Entertainers;
Kantuta 'the latin sensation' is inspired by the musical influences of the group’s varied cultural backgrounds. Kantuta perform a unique style of modern Latino Music and rhythms including Salsa, Merengue, Modern LatinDance Tunes and Classic Latin Favourites.

John and Felicity are the current New Zealand Stage Tango Champions having competed at the 2006 NZ Aerolineas Argentinas International Tango Congress. They have just returned from Buenos Aires where they represented New Zealand in the semi-finals of the prestigious World Stage Tango Championship.

Andrew and Danika�s partnership breathes the intoxicating rhythm of Salsa!
Their unique style and ability to freestyle and improvise with the music has earned their reputations as one of New Zealand's leading street Salsa duos and the title of New Zealand Professional Salsa LatinDance Champions 2005. They went to Las Vegas in December 2006 to represent NZ in the 2nd Annual World Salsa Championships placing them among the top 20 Salsa couples in the world and into the semifinals of this event. The NZ Youth Salsa Kids have once again created history. They are the First Youth in the world & the first New Zealand Salsa Team to ever perform on the GREAT WALL of CHINA. Not only did they perform with the heart-felt passion and raw energy that they are world famous for, but they performed along side such great salseros such as Tito & Tamara - Puerto Rico, Swing Guys- Italia.
